About Me
Hi, my name is Jackie Williams and I’m an illustrator, graphic designer, and writer based in Houston, Texas. Previously I worked as an in-house graphic designer for the National Diversity Council for 12 years. I also work as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer using the name, Attawell Summer Creative. My artistic work draws from my graphic design, art, and creative writing background to create resonating, iconic, narrative-driven projects that reflect on family, history, and nature. I am currently open to full-time opportunities.
Drawing is one of my earliest passions. I spent my college years perfecting my skills and artistic style. During that time much of my inspiration came from collage art and the lithographic prints/illustrations in vintage children’s books and the loose, stylized, gestural techniques seen in doodles, sketches, and underdrawings.
I have been writing since an early age. I write semi-autobiographical poetry and short fiction that explores family dynamics, relationships, mental health, other worlds, and magic.
I graduated from the University of Houston in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in art and a minor in art history, with time spent focusing on creative writing and graphic design. My personal interests include genealogy, southern Black folk culture, ghost stories, and most recently, a podcast called Juncture discussing films and dream interpretation. I’m a native of the Texas Gulf Coast region.
